Co-Nourishment for the Win 💕

When Angelo and I first crossed paths salsa dancing in Central Park, it was September 5th, 2020 (we just celebrated three years together two days ago!) and Labor Day weekend was in full swing.

Over the next few days, we went to the beach with friends then pretty much moved in together cuz we were still in the middle of a raging pandemic. It seemed safer than taking the train from Harlem to Jersey City and we also already liked each other a lot

About a month in, we then experienced ‘COVID Confusion’ around if it was ok to hang out with other people or not, so during that time, we isolated together, played lots of games together, and dove deep with questions about each other, which all felt like a relationship get-to-know-you accelerator ️

It feels like yesterday and also like forever since that time! And now that we can do normal things in normal public spaces, we've had a weekly date night ritual since last year.

For obvious reasons, we didn’t do that many formal date nights for the first year or so of knowing each other (cuz pandemic lol) so it’s been really interesting to experiment with!

These pictures on Instagram are from last week’s date night where Angelo organized a picnic with Mexican food (a pathway to my heart lol) at Liberty State Park.

Other date nights have included going to the comedy club, getting a couples massage, seeing a candlelit string concert, lots of Italian food (another pathway to my heart lol), and even dancing at Britney Spears night (yeah, I organized that one haha).

Even with all the freedom to do new and unique things together, I still look back with fondness on the first few months we had to ourselves without so much outside noise, it set the foundation for a beautiful love story.

But now that I'm thinking about it, the real foundation is something my friend calls co-nourishment...

Co-nourishment is that feeling you get when the giving and receiving in a relationship feels so abundant and full, when each person has the heart and the energy to grow and expand together.

It's not something that happens with every person you meet, but when it does happen, it feels like you're being held and like you can let out a big deep sigh...

The body softens, the heart opens, and all the tightness or tension seems to dissolve when you're with them. You feel seen, heard, loved. Like you don't have to perform. You can just be.

It's a beautiful feeling, isn't it? And I'm lucky that I feel that way with my family, my close friends, my partner, and even my clients and colleagues <3
